As part of its participation in the Italian accelerator CrossConnect, Calejo has been sustainability certified by Italian universities. Every Euro invested in Calejo returns 1.91 Euros in social impact. This is considered very high value.
In the fall of 2025, Calejo participated in the Italian accelerator CrossConnext, which is led by Plug and Play and the non-profit educational organization ELIS, among others. An important part of this accelerator has been participating in a project to measure companies’ social impact, specifically their social return on invested capital. The value is defined as SROI (Social Return on Investment).
For Calejo, it has been about finding value for the company’s Smart Water AI product, which helps municipalities make their water systems more efficient and reduce emissions. The measurements were conducted by the organization Social Impact, in collaboration with ELIS and CrossConnect. According to their calculations, every Euro invested in Calejo yields 1.91 Euro in social return:
- Reduction in nutrient pollution to water bodies +0.45 Euro
- Reduction in waterborne gastrointestinal illnesses +1.20 Euro
- Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions +0.26 Euro
Total social income +1.91 Euro
A global role model
“Getting Calejo’s share is just confirmation that what we do has great importance for our communities. It is a natural step for an AI company with its roots in Tärnaby, Västerbotten. Northern Sweden is seen as a model for sustainability, thanks to its rich natural resources that enable green energy and raw materials, a strong commitment to balancing development with social and ecological considerations, and innovations that promote sustainable lifestyles and economies. For us in Northern Sweden, it has always been important to combine economic growth with protecting the environment and social welfare,” says Jonas Berggren, CEO of Calejo.
Northern Sweden’s strength lies in combining traditional industries such as forestry and mining with new technologies to create sustainable jobs and reduce environmental impact.
“As an AI company, which is at the forefront and develops next-gen AI for infrastructure and heavy industry, it is important for us to be able to contribute to creating security, meaning, and creativity for citizens to create viable societies. We aim to demonstrate that Northern
Sweden is a role model by actively managing the transition to a green economy and a more sustainable society. We are doing this in Italy right now. Calejo is proof that nature, economy, and people can thrive together in a responsible and viable society, there technological development is controlled by people and for the future good of people,” concludes Jonas Berggren.
